A few months ago I asked our community a simple question:
Imagine a future version of you, 10 years from now, travels back in time to visit you today. They give you a hug, then give you a ZOX that makes you tear up, because the words on it are exactly what you've needed to hear for a while now. What are the words on the inside of that ZOX?
While we found a wide variety of responses, nearly all of them had a similar thread - they wanted to know that things were going to work out. If I'm honest, I'm in the same camp - I think we all are. We're anxious about the future because it's currently unknown.
But in thinking through this, I realized something pretty profound. Apply that same question I asked to the you of 10 years ago, where you today would go back in time 10 years to give them a ZOX as though the you of today becomes the time traveller.
Would you tell them it's going to be okay? I think so - I know I would. The me of 10 years ago had just gotten engaged to Kara. Not only would I go back to say it's just okay, I would go back and shake me of 10 years ago and tell him to stop worrying so much - it's going to be better than he could ever know.
I wrote the card for this design with that idea:
"The future you is happy, healthy, and wishing you hadn't spent so much time worrying about all those things that never happened."
Staying optimistic, even in the face of uncertainty, is a real skill. But just like the you of today would tell the you of 10 years ago, it all works out, better than you ever expected.
