Expect Nothing

We’ll all make plans for things we want to do in life, but sometimes things go sideways. My friend had plans to study abroad last year for the spring semester, but she was only there a month when COVID hit, and she was forced back home. At the time, she didn’t know if she’d ever get the chance to go back to Italy. All these plans she’d made to visit a place that was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity disappeared right before her eyes like sand slipping through her fingers.

In times like these, we tend to appreciate everything on a closer scale. Yes, she missed out on a few months of plans, but she’s so appreciative of having been able to spend any time there at all. And, on a more serious note, when our family members, friends, or acquaintances leave, move, or pass away unexpectedly, we’re faced with a moment of deep gratitude for having spent time with them beforehand.

We’ll never know what tomorrow will bring, so it’s best to appreciate every single moment of right now. Plans change—time flies. Life surprises us. Take each moment by the hand and live in it. I hope this ZOX helps you to see the beauty in every single second.
